Welcome to the Lightweight Active Structures Laboratory

Our research focuses on the interaction between lightweight structures and active materials to design intelligent structural systems that can adapt to dynamic environments. The aim is to harness mechanical instabilities and nonlinear dynamical behaviors in deployable and reconfigurable structures to amplify performance in motion and energy based applications. We employ analytical, numerical, and experimental approaches to understand the mechanics of these advanced structures and develop novel multifunctional systems. Our lab is located in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State and it is directed by Dr. Andrew Lee.
